XR Tour Life
An interactive, campus-wide experience utilizing social AR capabilities
My Role:
For this project, I developed/scripted all of the lenses, designed all experiences (created scenes/narratives, adding interactivity, animating 3D models), and coded the partnering web-app!
The Issue:
Despite the growing popularity of AR/VR, we noticed that there is an absence of accessible immersive experiences that utilizes those technologies to truly enhance our reality
The Solution:
Let’s bridge reality and technology using AR!
Students are encouraged to explore campus in a new way on their own time through our XR Tour by experiencing a new perspective through the use of characters, story, and gameplay.
This expansive AR game experience is marketable to other universities looking to create interactive experiences on their campuses as well!
Experience Layout:
Users begin at a simple React web-app that acts as their passport to unlock hidden scenes at various locations around campus.
Each stamp connects to the lens that will transform the area around it.
Users must physically look for the location given by the lens, and when they reach it they will be treated to a unique experience
First some background…
These experiences were created using the LiDAR capabilities of our phones. For every location, I scanned the area using built in features of Snapchat as well as another app called Polycam. This allowed us to make custom meshes of the physical terrain of each space.
In each lens, there is a helper UI that shows the user exactly where to go and different phases are triggered by proximity to the landmark. This takes some moving around!
When users finally reach the location, they might find user interactions with the scene and some short narrative sequences that star our two robot characters, BotBot and Nano!
